| Content Management System |

A content management system is like a site builder on steroids. It does more, and it does it better. The installation is not point and click - and adding things to it is not either. You need a tech to help with those things. Once that part is done though, it works like a site builder. You can add pages easily in the backend, you can control where things go much better than with a site builder, and your site can grow wherever your business needs to grow. Content Management Systems are often referred to as "CMS". They are very popular as a means of building sites where a tech handles the nasty guts of the system, and where ordinary people handle the daily tasks. They are used by businesses of all sizes, and are fast replacing plain old HTML sites as the first choice for saving time and money for a business long term. They handle many kinds of content, and they handle it in a way that makes it faster to create and maintain. For example, if you want an article directory, you can create a special area in your site that automatically links your pages into your article directory - you just select the category for the item to go into. If you want other people to be able to contribute articles to your site, they can do that, and you can review the articles before they are published on the site, so that nobody can put something on your site that you don't want there. If you want a contact manager, it handles contacts. You don't need to create pages for your contacts, you can enter them into a form, and then the system automatically creates an email contact form for each person, which you can choose to use or not. The contact manager is searchable, which it would not be if it were just a page with names and addresses on it. If you want to create a directory to showcase the sites of your downline, you can. Again, a special manager is installed, which is designed to handle just that kind of information. You can create a listing form that asks for the company or distributor name, website, description, and anything else you want. It is completely customizable so it will gather the kind of information you want to gather on the form. Then you can display that information however you want to display it. A forum or a blog can be added to the site, and when they are added, they are managed through the same login as the rest of your site. If you want to make some forums only accessible to your downline, and not to the general public, you can do that. You can set the forum or the blog to behave the way you want it to behave, so that you can control who sees the information, who posts, and who moderates it. Content on your site can also be protected so that it is only visible to the people that you want to see it. If this page is only for your downline, or only for your customers, you can set it so they are the only ones who can see it. Content Management Systems are very powerful, but they also keep the management as simple as possible. They were designed so that ordinary business owners could control the parts of the site that they wanted to, without having to learn code or complex technical stuff. They provide an excellent framework for a flexible and sustainable website. |
